Services · Family Counseling

When the difficulty affects the whole family, the work can include the whole family.

Family counseling focuses on communication, conflict, transitions, and recurring patterns between people. The goal is not to assign blame, but to understand what is happening and create more workable ways of relating to one another.

Family counseling may help with…

A useful starting point depends on what is happening and what you want help with.

  • Communication that regularly turns into conflict or shutdown
  • Changes in family structure, separation, divorce, or other transitions
  • A child or teen’s difficulties affecting relationships throughout the household
  • Recurring patterns that family members understand but have difficulty changing

What the work can look like

Sometimes changing the pattern matters more than changing one person.

Sessions may involve different family members depending on the concerns and goals. Work can focus on communication, boundaries, expectations, problem-solving, emotional responses, and how each person’s reactions affect the rest of the system.

Family counseling may be used on its own or alongside individual therapy when that combination makes sense.
