Support for what happens between sessions—and between people.

When a child is struggling, parents often feel the effects too. And sometimes the most important changes happen not in individual therapy, but in the way family members understand, communicate with, and respond to one another.

Families often reach out when…

Parent or family support may be useful when everyday interactions have started to feel harder than they should:

  • Conflict at home keeps repeating without resolution
  • Parents feel unsure how to respond to difficult behavior or strong emotions
  • Communication between a parent and child has become strained
  • Caregivers disagree about expectations, limits, or how to respond
  • Separation, divorce, loss, or another transition is affecting the family
  • Everyone understands the problem, but the same patterns keep happening anyway

How we think about the work

The goal is not to identify who is the problem.

Parent coaching and family counseling look at the patterns that develop between people and what may be keeping those patterns going. The work can help caregivers respond more intentionally, communicate more effectively, and create greater consistency at home.

Depending on the situation, sessions may involve parents alone, family members together, or a combination of individual and family work.

01

Understand behavior in context

Look beyond the immediate conflict to what may be driving or reinforcing the pattern.

02

Change the response

Develop more consistent, workable ways of setting limits, communicating, and responding to difficult moments.

03

Strengthen the relationship

Reduce cycles of escalation and make more room for connection, trust, and productive conversation.
